PR

PUBLICITY MANAGER
We are actively seeking a part time contract Publicity Manager. This is a year-round contract with a wide variety of opportunities to interact with the artists and volunteers at the MTC and with the media and members of our communities. Our Publicity Manager works with the Board, the Production Director,  and cast to prepare publicity materials, including programs, press releases, interviews, posters, and (mostly electronic) mailings. There is a small stipend (currently $375/month) as well as commission on paid advertising and show sponsorships.

DIR

PRODUCTION DIRECTORS
We are actively seeking qualified directors for our 2023 summer melodramas. As of October 2022, we are also seeking suggestions for which shows to present. Our directors select volunteer actors from auditions that occur in mid-May. They work with the cast, set builder, costumer, and a volunteer producer to develop and present the show. Our directors are also the primary responsible adult at each of our performances, unless other arrangements have been made. The melodrama directorship contract includes a stipend of $1000.

PIANISTS

PIANIST/MUSIC DIRECTORS
We are actively seeking talented, enthusiastic pianists for our 2023 summer melodramas. This position includes solo performances (usually something from the 1900-1920s, but not always), accompaniment of songs used as "olios" within and at the end of each show, and (unique to our melodramas) musical underplay to help the cast and audience feel the mood of the show. For our summer melodramas, the pianist receives a contract stipend of $800.

SET

SET DESIGN/CONSTRUCTION
We currently have openings for a lead Set contractor for any of our 2023 shows. The set designer/builder works with the director to create a set design, builds the set, works with the director to find/select/assemble set properties, leads the set strike, and organizes after strike. We have a wide variety of materials available to work with, plus each show has a small budget ($200). This contract position includes a small stipend of $250 for summer melodramas and $275 for full length shows, with a potential increase for challenging sets.

COSTUMES

COSTUMER
We currently have openings for costumer for any of our 2023 shows. The costumer works with the director to select/adjust/create costumes for the show. They will also care for the costumes and organize the wardrobe storage areas following the show. We have a variety of stock wardrobe items for the costumer to work with, although the task often involves borrowing from elsewhere or even creating something new. Each show has a small budget ($200.) This contract position includes a small stipend of $250 for summer melodramas and $275 for full length shows, with a potential increase for challenging wardrobe requirements.

BOARD

VOLUNTEER BOARD MEMBER
The Mantorville Theatre Company has a volunteer board numbering between five and nine people. Board members are elected from the general membership of the company, or can be appointed to fill a vacancy by the other members of the Board. It is NOT necessary for board members to be immersed in the theatre - only that they have a strong interest in helping the company to be successful. The Board meets once a month to help decide the direction and budget of the company, to suggest and approve of the shows that we will present, and to make other decisions on behalf of the company. Board members also typically serve on one or more committees (such as publicity, fund raising, membership, script-reading, building, etc.) Each show also has a volunteer Producer (typically a member of the Board) who works with the director, staff, contractors, and cast to ensure things are going smoothly. Board members are expected to attend each production and receive two passes to each production to accommodate that requirement.

VOLUNTEER

GENERAL VOLUNTEER
There are myriad ways to help the MTC out with your volunteer talents. We always have fun when we get together for the cause.
  • All of our actors are volunteers.
  • We often need volunteers to run lights or sound in our shows.
  • We always need volunteers to take tickets and help people find their seats.
  • We often need volunteers to distribute posters, bookmarks, etc. to area businesses.
  • For our dinner theatre in October, we need help with serving and clearing.
  • Our set builders often need help with construction and strike.
  • We usually have one or two clean-up days to help keep the Mantorville Opera House organized.
  • We are happy to have volunteers join any of the committees listed above with the description of our volunteer board.
  • We could really use a volunteer to organize our volunteers.
Watch our Facebook page or our web page, or sign up on our email list to receive notification of these opportunities.
